BORNHOLM, 2024
The last ropes from Hasle Harbor
Used ropes from fishing around Bornholm
Approx. Size: 170x170x5 cm

A meeting with 4 fishermen from Hasle on Bornholm made this work possible. The ropes were the last ones in the harbor that bear witness to an everyday life with fishing on Bornholm. As one fisherman said, fishing is over, when the oxygen in the sea is gone... The fishermen now meet every day in a shed on the harbor to hold on to each other and what once was.

Interpreted in a work about life in its circular form, where repetition, chaos and rupture are united in aesthetic harmony and balance.

Sand, salt and fishing residues have been thoroughly washed out of all the ropes before they were sewn together to form this work. The tapestry appears with a patina that testifies to a past from fishing in the seas around us. Salt, sun, wear and tear and thread residues from sewing together with the yarn are the clear traces of history.
